The Hypothesis team will discuss how collaborative annotation with Hypothesis can be used to make student reading visible, active, and social in STEM courses. Social annotation's collaborative and metacognitive nature can encourage students to tackle difficult concepts in a new way. For example, social annotation can assist students in identifying patterns and relationships, in analyzing the validity of arguments and/or solutions, and in locating and contextualizing important information in problems. Additionally, it can give instructors an opportunity to guide students through texts or course materials asynchronously.

Help your students help themselves by telling them about Draft Coach.

Draft Coach is a student-oriented tool from Turnitin providing help with properly quoting/paraphrasing and citing work, as well as (non-AI) grammar checking/advice. This session is intended to introduce the tool to instructors and help them advise students in using it.

According to a Missouri Online faculty survey in the Spring of 2023, 98% of UM faculty have concerns about the use of tools such as ChatGPT in assignments and 68% on tests. In this session, we will review different ways AI can be used for plagiarism and cheating, talk about AI text detectors and non-technological ways of looking for AI-generated content, along with the limits of both, strategies for approaching AI cheating with students, and discuss the current UM policies regarding unauthorized use of artificially generated content.

Working towards a digitally accessible Canvas course can be an overwhelming task, but there are tools to help! This session will introduce two Canvas-integrated tools, TidyUP and Ally, to assist you in your efforts to make your materials in Canvas accessible. TidyUP identifies and can help you remove outdated or unused content, while Ally identifies and remediates accessibility issues in your Canvas content.

VoiceThread is a tool that allows you to have a conversation around a piece of media. In this training you will learn how to create and grade VoiceThread assignments.

Types of VoiceThread assignments are:

• Create
• Comment, including stacked commenting assignments

These can be combined in various ways and can be used to assess student presentations as individuals or as groups.
