UM SYSTEM APPROVED TOOLS

A variety of AI tools have been approved through the UM System Office of Information Technology for faculty, staff and student use. Each tool has specific guidelines for the data allowed.

Take time to understand UM System Data Classification Levels, and review each tool’s allowances before inputting any data. Some business units, colleges or departments may have more restrictive guidelines, so be sure to check with your academic unit for specific policies or limitations.

BPM 12004 requires all software, even free or open-source software, to be reviewed and approved before use. Questions about AI tool use, IT compliance and software approval can be directed to your campus IT department or Information Security Officer.
