Description

Campus Connect—where UM faculty come together to shape the future of learning.

Equations and symbols are at the heart of many STEM courses—but making them accessible can feel daunting. Mathpix is a tool that converts handwritten and digital math into formats that are easier for faculty to prepare and more accessible for students to use.

In this session, colleagues across the UM System will share how Mathpix is being applied in teaching and how it can reduce stress for faculty while opening learning opportunities for students.

Featured Speakers

  • Dr. CJ Lungstrum, Assistant Teaching Professor of Math (Missouri S&T), will share examples from Calculus I.
  • Dr. Thomas Vojta, Curators' Distinguished Professor of Physics and S&T Department Chair, will share how to convert LaTeX documents containing math into accessible HTML

Additional Perspectives

  • Susan Murray (Missouri S&T) will address best practices for course content and Title 2 accessibility
  • Cathy Eatherton (UM System Academic Technology) will address technical details, including campus-level access and Data Level 1 security.

Moderators

  • Susan Murray (Missouri S&T) and Alexis Petri (UMKC).

This session is designed for faculty teaching in mathematics, physics, engineering, and other STEM fields where equations and symbols are essential. Participants will leave with practical ideas for using MathPix to simplify their workflow and support students more effectively.
