Description

This session is a guided, hands-on exploration of three tools available to University of Missouri (UM) System educators that integrate with the Canvas Learning Management System. During this session, you will try out these tools from the student perspective by participating in sample activities created by Missouri Online instructional designers. We’ll also discuss best practices to successfully incorporate technology in your courses, as well as pointers to help you make tech decisions that work best for your context, your learning goals, and your students.

We’ll demonstrate and provide opportunities for you to ry out these three academic technology tools:

  • VoiceThread is a multimedia collaboration platform that enables instructors and students to create and share interactive presentations. Users can upload and comment using various media types such as images, videos, documents and slides through text, audio, or video comments. It facilitates online communication and collaboration, enabling activities like interactive lectures, student presentations, multimodal discussions, collaborative projects, and more.
  • Panopto is a video and presentation recording tool integrated into Canvas. As a UM System instructor, you can use Panopto to record and share welcome videos, lectures, video tutorials, podcasts, and more. Panopto can also be set up to allow students to record and share materials with others in their course site.
  • Hypothes.is is an open-source, collaborative annotation software integrated with Canvas in the UM System. Hypothes.is enables students to highlight text and insert annotations on any web page, PDF, or YouTube video transcript. Students and instructors interact by replying to each other. Annotations can include text, images, and video for multimedia storytelling and analysis.

By the end of this session, you should be able to identify logistical and pedagogical considerations for using these technology tools, as well as evaluate specific implementation ideas for use in your own teaching
